In the twenty-plus years I’ve been an editor, I’ve collaborated with writers and book authors through all stages of the process, from conception to publication. I love writing and reading, and I believe it is equally important for an editor to acknowledge what a writer is doing well as it is to identify areas that need improvement. I always strive to deliver feedback that is clear, constructive, and ideally will serve the writer beyond the project at hand.
I am well versed in both nonfiction and fiction writing, having earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism (from Michigan State University) and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing (from Southern New Hampshire University). My first job in publishing was as a newspaper reporter and proofreader, with a focus on current events, profiles, and human-interest stories. I spent the next fifteen years as an editor for FamilyFun, a nationally distributed magazine with a circulation of more than 2 million. While there, I wrote, commissioned, and edited personal essays and stories on a wide range of topics, including travel, education, woodworking, crafts, and recipes. I also have contributed a variety of stories and educational content for other publications and websites, including Yankee, New England Watershed, FamilyPC, and the Disney Internet Group.
In addition to my background in magazine and online publishing, I have considerable book editing experience, working with authors to shape, organize, and revise the material, as well as consulting with photographers, stylists, and designers on a number of nonfiction titles. An author, myself, I have written eight children’s activity books, as well as additional commissioned titles for Disney Press, and several works of fiction.
